I made the mistake of killing time at work looking at the message board and now I cannot stop giggling. I keep wanting to run across the office yelling "Teleport!" until I get there. ;D

Wizards homepage update to look snazzier. Also a news release about an upcoming streamlined basic set for kiddies to get involved in learning our beloved pasttime. It comes with a bunch of minis, some dice, and I presume really dumbed down rules.

Ok, so I hav'nt been on the web much. The other day on a lunch break I was on wizards of the coast site and I came accross a character optimunisation board. I. E. power gamer board. Now, I am a power gamer because I like to be effective. It's fun for me; everyone knows that but I try not to go over the top. But on this board they post character builds to make your character the most powerful PC by class type and they debate 36d12+50 damage doing monks and guys who can trip anybody in 30ft. It's all by the rules and not from obscure books. I won't use any of these even know there better Ideas than the one I come up with. These freaks have algorithims and graphs, thier way smarter than me. Now to the Point......Any hobby you have you can go online and there someone who is smarter than you that will post what is the best thing to do espeally if there is math involved(statistics)...so you never have to be clever on your own or even do the work youself..fantasy football....site dnd...site and you have an advantage over the people who try and come up with thier own Ideas....now I know some of you people who have the time to spend on the web know what i am talking about....It kind of takes fun out of things but I guess we can't help ourselves...so I guess we'll all have pilfered fantasy football list and characters that get 20 attacks concepts(I'm not naming names)...I try not to go over the top but I have looked up a few things myself. I'll try and not be dick and use them....This is just the ramblings of a bored person....hiding your sources....

The INTERNET is a great and wonderful thing and it makes incredible amounts of information readily and easily available. And it's not just "smarter" people, it's people with more experience sharing, it's people in different circumstances sharing, it's unique information from innumerous resources. Unfortunately.........NONE OF THIS HELPS YOU IN FANTASY WORLDS
In DnD there is always a guy at the table who can bend rules, break rules, negate rules, and make up rules, he's called the DM. Plus he can at will kill your character, cripple your character, and humiliate your character - all perfectly within the rules of the game. I'd also say that people on message boards are often wrong. Anyhow, I agree with you that if you set out thinking the only fun in DnD is having the most optimized character you would be taking a lot of fun out of the game. Personally, I don't think I ever saw an optimized character by anyone whenever I played DnD. In fantasy sports leagues, ratings mean nothing if dudes get injured. They are also like 90% based on past performance and not the great at predicting future performance. I'm running a baseball league for the fourth time and I've never seen anyone try and follow ESPN, etc. 1,2,3,4,5 draft style (that I know of, it was rumored someone did that in 2002, but never confirmed). Mostly because that is gay, but also because no one blindly trusts some damn list from the Internet or a magazine.
I will e-mail you directly for some other comments Ringo. Way to show up out of no where and throw out some slander.

I say Ring "Speaks the truth with a twist of his ghetto point veiw". And mostly i enjoyed his cander and keen observation. However i dont think i ever seen anyone do this for D&D. I have seen some of these boards first hand and many times they are wrong. Let these fools come play in my world. Most of the time a few bad rules create huge looholes which mess up the whole game. I try to watch out for these. People have totally consulted Fantasy baseball and football. Though dave buckley stand as living monument that you can overcome this as he has won every fantasy baseball league ever by alot of points and i know he picks guys he likes. Usually the yankee lineup and some cornballs i never heard of. Like a rookie named Soriano.
Overall i dont knwo if consulting such things is good or bad. Its tough when your "Not in the know". Like larry whose knowledge of football is limited. What should he do. Plus if one guys gonna do it then doesn't everybody. I did use something i saw on webpage in magic card game which was really crazy but only possible to pull of in 1 out of 30 games.
But the fantasy football does not bot well here. To me it seemed the two coaches who picked on par with a Fantasy estimate where Ring and Buck. One had the best record the other one won. But i do remeber ring having some shattering injuries. But again at that time ring and bucks knowledge of football was no where near me, boof, cheez, ken, papo. I think the tarpping is playing solely to win. Winning is great but the goal has to be to have fun. I can pull of thsi difficult motto in everything except one on one compettition. I had a blast in Fnatasy footnball last year mostly cause i got the players i enjoyed most. As commish of that league i say go for whatever. Its all g0ood in the hood. This year i'm gonna tr and mix it alitlle with some of my guys and some Good guys. Still i prefer my own research as opposed to some fnatasy graph chart. They are all guesses and i'd rather make the bobo myself.
CANT WAIT FOR FOOTBALL

[rant deleted, e-mails sent] Not that any of this relates to DnD in the least.

In no way was the post a judgement. As a matter of fact the board under the min/max (you guys know my dumb ass has trouble with da big words) optima-what...Nebraska schools Was how to get the most fun out of your character from roleplaying. It was just an observation about the other board. These guys have the character builds for the best core characters, just 3.5, just 3.0.....power attack guides in excel and all kinds of crap. I just couldn't beleave it. With the acasional chime in from the staff to call B.S. on some of the stuff; it mostly seemed on the money. Whatever just looking at feat combos...Darkon aka Darth maul uses Two weapon fighting which I knew was not superior to two handed fightning for damage or to hit. It was for fluff... I tend to go for powerful but not to crazy. If you guys want me to call someone out I choose the arcane duelest. This prestige class is only posted on the internet and is considered by everyone on those boards to by way over the top. But whatever some people get away with stuff others don't thats the way it is. So be it it is just a game and this an observation not an attack....but who care what I say anyway I am a trouble maker and besides I cheat... As far as fantasy football try Dr football's fantasy guide. It's up dated weekly and is not based on the NFL stats but fantasy ratings as I'm sure most of them are...why dos'nt someone bring those to the draft for referance they are much better than last years stats list and take into account injury rate...and other intangables...I'll bring it... I have it printed already...

Yeah,
All that football information should be made available on draft day. But last year was a test run that i decided to do THAT DAY. This year will be bigger better and all that Jazz. Plus kids have an idea what its all about so can efficently research before hand.
Yes, Papos arcane Duelist dude is insane. But he knows it and that why he ran it by freddie. Somehow i think he gets like 45 attacks in one round, if you include the magical images as flanking then 18 of those attacks get sneak attack damage. HA HA AHA. I have never seen anything like it. But all our guys are preatty crazy in that group. Fred loves the chaos. Hey ring what else do those web sites say is totally out of hand. I wanna hear more craziness.

I read somewhere to use Polymoprh Other to turn someone into water-breathing creature like a fish to kill. Thought that was clever and turned spell into save or die. Not really outlandish, but seemed more than the intention of the spell. If this was changed in 3.5, excuse this post. Love the wicked laugh Fred, I have a feeling I know what that means...

baleful Polymorph is 3.5 version of Polymorph Other Polymorph is 3.5 version of Polymorph self
I think there is a size limitation on polymorph.

I play DnD 3.0 with some people here now (no, they are not as pretty, intellectual, and overall plain cool as you superb specimens of humanity). No one knows most the rules: half know half, other half know none. It's great. Mostly because it's never an issue. DM also likes to railroad you with the plot and actions, so rules moot to his will. Fine by me, I play to have fun, not argue about rules. ;D I probably get most fun just thinking about my PC and how cool I think he is and can eventually be. Hey, that may be delusional in and out of game/character, but the entire game is delusional if you think about it long enough.
