This is a great idea for a thread! Great Idea! I love it. Awesome! Spectular! Wonderful!
I don't want to ask you too much about the book because I don't want it to spoil the movie. Unfortunately, movies are almost never as good as the book, but hopefully, AVP will do it justice.

What is a book?
Strangely enough the AVP thing started as a dark horse comic. Then they did books. But i think what larrys reading is a book based on the screenplay for the film. Weird.

I'm reading Lord of the Rings again after seven years ago and something is bugging the heck out of me. At the end of the first chapter, Bilbo has given Frodo the ring and all his possessions to Frodo and other hobbits. Gadalf supplies the fireworks and everything is good. However, Tolkien makes the implication that hobbits are stealing many things from Bilbo's possessions. Then the last paragraph seems to imply Gandalf might be too. It says he slumps out hunched over as if he were bearing a great weight. OK, well then, what the fuck is Gandalf lifting from Bilbo? He never touches the ring and supposedly has no idea at that time about its true nature. WHAT IS GANDALF STEALING FROM HOBBITON?

Hey,
Just got done reading the first 5 books of the Saga of the spider queen sextet. These books were not literrary masterpieces but damn the story was awesome. I thought i was done reading about Drow. But no no, from the diabolic mind of RA Salvatore comes yet another thrilling saga.
To the uniniated: These books have nothing to do with Drizzt. Though his home city of Menzoberranzan and some of the characters introduced there are. The plot centers arround the fact that Lloth got of drow is not granting spells and is proabably dead. The reprecussions of this are far reaching as the self destructive drow must face their enemies without their goddess. The intique, depth, and breath of the story are amazing. And ofcourse there is the duel between the 2 baddest Drow wizards EVER. In 3rd editon style the books adhere to the rules throughouly so you can figure out exactly what the charcters are doing. As the series continues the story just gets bigger and bigger and bigger and flies totally of the hook. Oh yeah, and all the charcters are evil, all of them. THats great. Can't wait for book 6 in 2005.
To anyone interested the first book is: Dissolution by Richard Lee Byars
PS: Drizzt now has 14 books he stars in and another 8 novels about his spinoffs and atleast 5 shorts stories., INSANE

Hey i just finished Servant of the Shard. Yes i am al little behind. The book ends with mentioning Jarlaxle is the 3rd born son of Matron Beanrae. This would make him brother to Gromph, Dantrag, Berg'inyon, and now ruling matron Triel.
Did we know this?

Just finished "Sea of Swords" by Ra Salvatore. It is drizzt looking for wolfgar.
I liked the idea of The Paths of Darkness Trilogy (1)Spine of the world -starrin Wolfgar (2)Servant of the Shard -starring Jarlaxle & artemis (3)Starring Drizzt
And some of the events occuring at the same time. The only universal Character being the unlikely Morik the theif. I was suprised Salvatore did not use Morik for the narrative of all 3. That would have been more interesting.
Anyhow, Sea of Swords was useless. Total crap. I believe that Salavtore only half wrote this novel. I dont know if anyone remembers this but RA Salvatore left TSR and the rights to drizzt Do'urden were turned over to Marc Anthony. There were advertisments for Sea of Swords starring drizzt and written by Mark Anthony. Then Wizards takes over calls Salvatore back and gives him back drizzt. So I say Salavtore used Anthony manuscitps and through this piece of shit together.
I pray the Next troligy (Thousands orcs, Lone drow, the two blades) will be better.
Hey, does nayone know if the Cadderly books were worth a damn.

The Hunter's Blades Trilogy ios just total all-out war. Much death, much destruction and the avatar of Gruumish vs. Wulgar! How can you go wrong? The latest and last book of this trilogy just hit the stands the other day and I can't wait to read it.
The Cleric Quintet was OK. The story takes you through Cadderly's complete rise to power from almost nothing to extremely powerful cleric. If you like the developmet aspect, you'll like this. The only problem is that I thought a lot of the characters were campy. You may disagree.
Servant of the Shard was great. I loved Artemis Entreri's new sword. Very original. I forgot about the Jarlaxle reference. Interesting huh?

Just finished "The Thousand Orcs" Book one in the Hunters Blade tilogy. This book was waste of time IMO. It is precisely what the title advertises and nothing more. The writting itself suffers from the too many seperate plot lines of uniunteresting charcters. I wonder if Salvatore even writes his own books anymore. PLus it seems like they are gonna proceed with The Ellifain storyline which is BORING. Once these books got into hardcovers the stakes just got hire and hire. As the old charatcers lost storyarcs of value Salvatore explored other characters Jarlaxle and Artemis. THis book does none of this. But they do infact kill a thousand orcs.

Just finished "3001: The Final odyssy": This is the fourth and final book in Author C. Clarks Odyssy series which began with "2001: A Space Oddysey". The book legitimized the whole seires and was good. If you plan to read it dont read the rest of this post.
For those who have ever wondered what he hell happened here is the answer.
Hal turns evil in 2001 due to a prgramming error. Bowman is transformed into a being of light to act as a probe so that the monolith can better moniter the human race. It is the mission of the monolith to probe livjng speices and to maipulate them for teh better at key points in their existence. Specifically to culture and encourage intelligence. Though Bowman is esentially a slave to the monlith he maintains his own individuality. Bowman tries to intervene for humanity where he can. To better do this Bowman needs to understand the Monoith. But he cannot as the Monlith is based entirely on logic. Thus at the end of 2010 Bowman merges his existence with Hal. With Hals consiousness in his own the logical part of hal can interface with the monolith.
In 3001 Frank Pool the astronaut who was thrown out into space in 2001 is found in space his body prserved. He is resurrected and meets up with Bowman. He learns that sometimes the monliths Judge a speices should not survive. Due to the sheer size of space it has talken this long for the monolith to transmit the information about events in 2001 and his about to recieve its answer from the master monolith very far away. The human race decides it cannot take the chance the monolith could judge the human race to end. So they use bowman to download a computer type logic virus which will cause the molith to fail. Bowman agrees to help and it more or less works. Thousands of Monoliths appear and block out the sun momentarily. Then vanish. After this all the molith are gone from our solar system. Thus the aliens who long created the monolith will not mettle with our development any more.

I like Salvatore's smash em to bits plots but this last book, The Hunter's Blades, kind of has me annoyed at Drizzt, or more precisely, at Salvatore because in the last book, Drizzt writes off his friends, sort of, and goes chasing after a stupid Pegasus rescue mission instead of standing with the Dwarves who are totally under seige by every Orc on the planet. Where the hell is his loyalty to his friends and the Dwarves who befriended him? Salvatore's excuse for this behavior is annoying at best and I find myself more interested in Bruenor and his kin then Drizzt who seems to be just a side-bar-type character in this book.

I just finished "The Two Blades", the third and finally book in Salvatores latest "The Hunters Blade" Trilogy.
I thought all 3 books sucked bad and only kept reading assuming he had something good coming. He did not. There was none of the intrigue of the other books. No cool new characters. And in the end NOTHING is concluded. Its just left so wide open that i suppose Salvatore plans to grind out more crappy books. I am not ven certain if salvatore is actually writing this garbage in the firsy place.
DONT ANYONE EVER READ THIS BOOKS. They go in the "SKIP" category of the salavatore series along with "SPINE OF THE WORLD". and "SEA OF SWORDS".
All these books establish is that now there is alot of Orcs in the north. Thats it.
Damn Salvatore

Yeah I thought RA was selling his name out to ghost writers?
I read 3001. Remember the entire religion question boiled into Deists v. Atheists by that point. Also remember something about low gravity sports played in space, sounded wacky. And a shuttle to space it talked about. Interesting things, but Clarke also included reference materials for you to check up on the source for his fictionalization of theories.
