I know that this has been discussed before, but I recently found the new Metallica CD, St. Anger and have been trying to listen to it again when I exercise. No matter how open-minded I try to make myself, this CD still s.ucks. I mean it is really terrible. It is so bad, I'm embarrassed to listen to it, I'm embarrassed for them. I guess Jason Newstead saw the writing on the wall and left for, as it turns out, very, very good reasons. Anybody aware that Metallica is coming out with a movie? It's a documentary (not done by Michael Moron), that follows the band around during the making of St. Anger. It's called, "Some Kind of Monster," after one of the songs on the St Anger CD. Basically, it seems like a two hour Lars - Hetfield fued. Could be interesting. Maybe we can finally understand how/why they self-destructed. As for Velvet Revolver, I have heard one of their songs on the radio and it sounded good. I just saw the VH-1 Behind the Music with Guns-N-Roses and I've got a hankering for some good GNR stuff. One of the riffs in that Velvet Revolver song is pure Slash and brings me back to the day. I may buy it unless someone already owns it and is willing to make me a copy.

I was all over Velvet Revolved idea when I worked in radio and e-mailed everyone and got excited like it was Christmas, then months passed and I thought the thing was dead. But I heard that Slither song and thought it was decent. Then I keep hearing it and liking it more and more. I really like it now. I wonder how the album is as a whole. I liked STP, but towards the end dude was just rambling on drugs and you could tell it was a forced collaberative effort. You know, like a 21st century Metallica album. Ken, that documentary is almost entirely them in therapy sessions talking to one another about their feelings and issues. I don't care what the band is, this is a very bad idea I'd say. Well, that was the picture painted when Lars when on Conan O'Brian. Lars made it sound like when Newsted left the band at the height of financial successes it tore them apart. I believe that as much as I believe I will ever be able to fit into my high school jeans again. Lars is a salesman. Like when St. Anger was coming out there were outrageous amounts of promotions and all kinds of hype and interviews and they talked it up like it was One all over again. I came into liking Metallica way after they were most popular, years after black album, but even someone with my perspective can see they plain lost touch over the years. Too bad. i've got the Godsmack album Faceless. It is great. Makes me want to buy more albums, but their prices on e-Bay get too high compared to other CDs and this makes me think everything these guys do is good stuff -not that I would really know first hand that is. I also nominate that new Beastie Boys song Check it Out as good nuts.

I am a HUGE Godsmack fan and have almost all of their albums. ;DThey were originally an Alice and Chains cover band, thus their name Godsmack, which is a title of an Alice and Chain song. Soon, Godsmack realized that they had their own thing going, that their sound, although similar to Alice and Chains (which was great in my humble opinion), was unique and was very marketable. They came out with their first album and were a smash success. Since then, I have been an avid fan. Buy any of their albums and I promise you won't regret it. Godsmack and Metallica are doing a show together in NY in October. This is my dream concert. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to talk for at least a week after going to this concert. Godsmack has this curious habit. On the self-entitled "Godsmack" album, they switch gears a little and do this song "Voodoo," which is great, but it's a little different because it deals with the supernatural and the rhythms are very haunting. On their next album, they did it again in a song entitled "Spiral," which is another haunting song, dealing with the supernatural, (I get the impression of vampires) that is heavier but also very good. There is so little quality metal :'(anymore that these guys are a great alternative. The lead singers voice is powerful, deep and resonating, not a high pitch or anything like Bruce Dickenson form Iron Maiden or Rob Halford from Judas Preist (both good bands in their own right, just comparing styles here). The bass lines are also pretty heavy, which is nice. Check these guys out.

I had no clue about the cover band history of Godsmack. That is awesome. I love(d) Alice In Chains. I highly recommend the rhythms of the Mad Season album too. Songs are mad long, but awesome. It seems a pinnacle of that form of music to me. I loved Lane Staley, too bad the idiot killed himself with drugs. I scooped the last CD a couple years ago from the guitar dude (name slips mind) and it was ehhh ok. One track I really liked that if you read enough into it was about missing his dead friend and former lead singer, something like "I miss you" or some name like that. Gosmack Faceless album has a track -the second to last, right before Serenity - that I've read is literally a wiccan chant and that they are knee deep in "Voodoo". I don't care either way and am unphased as I don't care the beliefs of my musicians. I'm recalling Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam on MTV Unplugged pretty much drooling and falling of his stool writing pro-choice on his arm and people acted like it was novel. I'm with Howard Stern (or was whenever I heard it) on his criticisms of Eddie - guy was in Singles and smiled, then all of a sudden he pretends to be a recluse and cannot speak like a normal human being anymore. Other music news: Ozzie guitarist Zak Wylde has some good tunes. He put out an album recently that gets heavy rotation on KNAC.com (seriously people check out that music station online NOW ). Rob told me what used to be heavy metal is no longer played and what used to be called alternative is now called heavy metal. I buy this theory wholesale. Alice In Chains actually being a key exhibit in the doctoral thesis. In closing: 1. KNAC.com f.uckers, it rocks (usually) 2. Zak Wylde gets a thumbs up 3. Mad Season was awesome

Anyone else ever done a customized Yahoo station? It's free and you rate songs as they play and the result is a great station individualized for your specfic tastes. here's a link to my station: launch.yahoo.com/lc/?rt=0&rp1=0&rp2=1316624203I think in order to listen to my station or to listen without advertisements it costs $3/month. But you can start up something for yourself for free (just get a couple ads an hour) and all you need is a Yahoo ID.

I have been out of music for a while but heres my input.
GODSMACK is Good, atleast 2 of their albums are excellent the self entitled Godsmack is the best i know.
Alice is chains was preatty good.
Metallica St. Anger sucks. The movie deals with making of saint anger which was really about james hetfield getting sober and how much lars and hetfield hate each other. Metallia was at its best when Hetfield and lars were high drunk and stupid, hated each other and maintained creative control between the two of them. Not allowing any input from Cliff, Jason, Kirt, etc. Now they suck. But in live concert no one can rock harder even now.
Velvet revolver is Scott Wylan and the "Use Your Illusion 1" version of GNR. In my opinion though appetite will always be great the "Use your illusion" epic was one of the greatest musical creative drives EVER. The quality and range of those 2 albums was outstanding. How could this group have ever dissappeared. Velvet album is out and they will be touring.
Meanwhile The actual Guns and roses band now consisting of Axl and some clowns (Buckethead, and dudes from other bands). Are slated to release their new album in octobver called Chinese Democracy. This album has been in the works for 5 years. One can only imagine.
Other good bands: Lincoln park, puddle of mudd, Staind.
Here is a synapsis of the Guins and roses VH1 behind the music documentory which i watched 2 days ago.
Axl is a genius Appetite is released and they are all stars Axl makes all band members sign over the name "Guns and roses" or hes gonna walk. Drummer Stephen addler cant somber up gets kicked out. New drummer matt joins band. Begin recording Use your illusion. Axl is a scum bag, Izzy leaves band Axl turns guns and roses into a band consitsing of a band, a piano, back up[ singers, an ochestra, and more. Use Your Illusion tour is the longest tour of any band in history. Axl is dick, slash and duff leave band. Axl and matt stare at each other. Matt leaves band. The entire band is still totally willing to join back up with Axl if he can just act like an adult for a little while. It is forgone conclusion this will never happen.
AXL is a world class scumbag yet still one of the greatest frontmen ever.

I heard even Buckethead left Axl. For real, if you cannot keep a man name Buckethead happy, something is really wrong. Also heard Zakk Wylde interview on KNAC.com and he said he jammed with Axl and was considering joining his new band. Axl never made an offer, went and signed a contract with out Zakk and then told Zakk he did that because he heard Zakk wanted $3 million in cash up front. Zakk was as dumbfuddled at that thought as the reason why Axl never discussed it with him before signing another guitarist and just assumed Zakk was a scumbag too. Chinese Democracy title was spoofed by latest Offspring album. They literally named their album after the proposed "GNR" album to mock Axel ROse. That is too amazing and a testament to what GNR used to be in the world of rock.

www.eyesoffire.us/hear.htmlEyes of Fire is pretty good. So I got the first Godsmack album. My only complaint is that every other song includes "Go Away" in the chorus. Other than that it's great.

Anyone else watching Jimmy Kimmel last night? I saw the strangest musical group I've seen in a while. A Hassidic Jew who does reggae. Sounds like a gag, but dude is pretty good. After watching with my jaw on the floor for a full minute, I closed my eyes and listened. Dude's voice carries the style pretty well ((I think he did the King Without a Crown song you can hear on the website). Apparently he was reggae fan turned religious man and doesn't separate the two or something. I did not make this up, check the link. Link: www.hasidicreggae.com/music.php
