So I heard that those 2 fox news dudes who were caught in Iraq were asked if they muslums. THey were christians but said they were muslums. Then I heard some christian lady saying. They cant do that. They cannot denounse christ or pay homage to another god no matter what.
I thought to myself "Thats right they cant".
Then again though i know all that shit about repentance has nothing to do with weather you confess to a priest or say your sorry. If your actual sorry on the inside then your in like flynn. I would think as long as these dudes kept it straight in their head they could say whatever they wanted.
Just curious, i know we have some devote christians here.

i think they can say what ever they want.when you break it down it is really just a lie and sin that can be forgiven through confession or repetence.they never denounced christ just lied about it.and when it comes to keeping my head lie lie lie lie and then say ten hail marys and presto god forgives.what a great religion. ;D ;D ;D

It truly is a shame that we live in such a "civilised" world today. I for one would like to begin a holy war, totally out in the open, christians vs. muslims, here in the United States and in the Middle East.
No, I'm not talking internment camps here in the US, I'm talking Africa-style death squads, I'm talking Nazi-style brown shirts, I'm talking fire-bombing mosques and burning them to the ground and then erecting low-income housing on the remains, maybe even custom-built crack houses. I'm talking direct, multiple, nuclear strikes on the entire middle east, even moderate muslim nations, I'm talking extermination of as many muslim people as we can find, and a permanent nuclear winter over the middle east. Fuck the oil.
What has driven me to this hateful, terrible, evil desire? Terrorism is one thing, but muslims calling for the removal of the Pope? This is my religion! My town! Try removing the evil from your own religion instead of just acting like cattle to the slaughter and allowing the crazy, sick, demented, extremist murderers and butchers to run free and rampant all over the world, destroying how the world sees your "peaceful" muslim religion.
Grow the fuck up!
Christianity has gone through its growing pains. Many terrible things have been done in the name of Christianity, but we've moved passed that, we've EVOLVED! Why can't the muslim religion do the same? These people are fuckin' sub-human.
So if they want to say fuck you to civilization, I say we go sword to sword, blow for blow and see who the last mutherfucker is standing.

The premise is the idea that Allah is different from and incompatible with Jesus and the rest of theHoly Trinity. It's not cock and balls to beleive otherwise, the basis of each is Judaism, the Old Testament Yahweh. We're all Jews!
Of for real though, the Christian history is full of Marytrdom. Mostly just plain "I believe in Jesus" deaths. That is celebrated, but I do not believe that it is demanded and expected of everyone. Paul speaks of each according to his abilities, and frankly we do not all possess the ability to stare down death. The two commandments of the old testament demanded Yahweh above all other potential Gods, but Jesus came talking a new jive. When asked which was the most important commandment he inserted his own, one not even listed by Moses, the Golden Rule. Do that, and you're "golden" in the end. Anything done at the barrel of a gun, I would hope we can all reasonably expect to be forgiven (as the Pope recently reminds us, reason is a path to God). There are other scenarios similar and yet different we could propose that would similarily skirt the sanctity of faith for the purpose of wordly ends; denounce your god or else I will kill your son here and now, etc. Whichever is a greater act of love is likely to be the will of our Lord, that is a basic litmus test. Anyone who speaks in absolutes in terms of Christianity is likely to be pushing some agenda. That's a generality I find to be true far more often than not. Life is complicated. Jesus came not explaining life and how to act in every situation, but forgiving everyone for fucking up - in particular the beggars, thieves, prostitutes, and taxmen. That is the basis of the religion, not the pious Pharisees. Intention and believe are essential to Christianity, and I expect any reasonable assessment of these two journalists to absolve them of wrongdoing. Speaking words in a sequence is a far different thing than to actually believe and live those words.

Wow, Ken I just posted at the same time as you did, which is why mine seems awkwardly out of sequence in this thread.
War of the Religions... we've done that before. I agree with much of what you said except for the idea of violence. That is not the Christian thing to do. We know Christ willingly walked into his execution and even healed the ear of the Roman who was there to capture him, Jesus told his Apostles not to respond in kind - "live by the sword, die by the sword". It's a tough notion, but I think the idea is to let God punish the wicked and for us to try and live our lives with as much purpose and love as we can.
I share the frustrations with the Muslims. I find the entire faith deplorable in action. But treating is with vengeance is not going to get rid of the faith and contradicts the entire history of our own. Thanks for venting though, it made a great read!

In reality the god of the Koran, Judaism and Christianity are the same. The prophets are different and the style of the Religions differ but all have a common set of beliefs as we all know. Having been to the middle east I admire thier commitment to prayer and religious discipline. No offense I Ken empathies with your point of view but I must say that is very un-Christian like and not at all resembling the teaching of Christ. Then again an "eye for an eye" I usually prefer two.

This might interest you or not. In first chapter of Koran there is some blah blah "Here be God" rhetoric then a rehashing of much Old Testament. I was like, why? Then there is a launch into infidels. I always took this to mean "non-muslim". Instead, the use of the term is for the Judeo-Christian people, as in they broke the covenants, they practiced infidelity. There is some stuff about them being holier than thou and given the timeframe (circa 400-500 AD) it's very likely that this is true and preventing the proper development of the faith as originally intended, e.g. not at the hands of Caesar, but the mouths of average men. But to go from that to infidels should rot in hell is a completely nother fucking matter.
Just thought that was an interesting backdrop. If ever captured by Islamic terrorists, try telling them you never read any religious work and are open to learning more about it, might save you from being labelled an infidel.
Back to an old point about that scenario, I said this: "Speaking words in a sequence is a far different thing than to actually believe and live those words." I think this is true and looking at it in reverse makes it more obvious. It's like speaking a prayer is not anything if you are just saying the words. If there is no faith there is no point in practicing these rituals. This has scriptual basis, from the mouth of Jesus. The Love over the Law. I'm too tired to find citations, but will if anyone demands it.

You know what we need in this country? A bible-toting president with delusions of grandeur and psychotic tendencies who is also a great communicator and speaker that believes he is the right hand of God. Why so specific a person. Because in this little fantasy of mine, he pushes the little red button that annhiliates the middle east. ALL THE MIDDLE EAST. Just afterward, he comes on television with a nice little smile and tells the American people we don't have to put up with these people anymore because he just did God's work and initiated armageddon against these towel-headed scum-faces. Again, I need to go to confession.

Ken, you inspired me try try reading the Koran again ;D Know your enemy DONE. If anyone has ever been annoyed trying to read song lyrics, try reading an entire book of them, complete with repeated stanzas. That's about what it felt like, but I fucking did it. Took me forever and as my wife can attest, I complained a lot. I was surprised how much it was like Jews for Jesus, if that makes any sense. I was not shaken or stirred, but was satisfied to find enough Islamic grounds to assert with certainty that the Koran forbids the methods employed by modern Jihadic terrorists. Not that it matters much, Jesus was a pacifist and medieval popes waged epic battles to try and clear the way to Jesus's hometown for Christian pilgrims, slaughtering a lot of clueless dudes along the way. I don't feel the least bit guilty or attached to that history - the Muslims took Spain remember, but that's an entire other tangent. Anyhow, back to the question of denying Jesus. The best answer came to me recently. This is spelled out in the Bible, in an example that makes sense to a religion born in secrecy and living in fear of persecution - providing an example of how one of the pillars of the Church could deny Jesus if in immediate threat. While Jesus is tried before his crucifixion, Peter is nearby observing it all and when directly questioned and in fear of his own life three times denied that he even knew Jesus. This is Peter called the Rock, considered by Catholics as the first appointed Pope in the apostolic tradition, the namesake of the Basilica at St. Peter's in Rome, the official Vatican church, the largest Catholic church on the Earth. If that guy can deny Jesus based on circumstances at hand and later be redeemed, who among us cannot? Here's the Scriptures of Peter's Denial in all four Gospel accounts: Matthew 26:58-75; Mark 14:54-72; Luke 22:54-62; John 18:15-27).

So you read the Koran cover to cover. Did you feel like blowing somethign up. No but really. I have tried at times to read parts of the Koran. But it was dififcult. Like reading Donte's inferno in its original Infernal language.
But I suspect that Islam is just an evil religion. What did you find to that end.

I have not read the book and and do not plan on it. I read an overview. Is there conflicting messages as there are in the Bible? An Eye for an Eye and turn the other cheek stuff for people to pick and choose from. I believe the radicals choose what they want and downplay the thou shalt not kill part. If am pretty sure they have one. My thought on karma: Kindness and compassion is the way to happiness that simple. I love you guys...... How is Sonya Buck?
