I hear chatter about Sarah Palin and whether she runs for President. Then I see her on TV literally shooting at animals so to me no chance in this lifetime she becomes a serious political candidate.
Whether you like Obama or not the guy has lost a lot of luster. Seems to not matter given the alternative leaders appear not compelling. I remember when this was the case in the black community (irony!) and I never understood before. But the country really has a gap in political leadership from both parties and the third rail people are not great alternatives. I realize polls are mostly about current economics without regard to politics but the latest Congressional approval numbers are in the teens. Last one I saw was 13. When 5 is the plus/minus this means that about everyone thinks Congress is horrible.
Are we teetering on the circumstances that gave rise to radical powers in Europe in the early 20th century? The division of political power arising from apathy leaves the door open for more fringe candidates to enter. I love radical opposition so I think this is great and can generate more interesting dialogue than the political platforms permit. The checks and balances in our government prevent a coup by any individual or group so a few radicals running around is a good thing.
Which brings me to my point. Do we need political parties anymore now that content can be dispersed freely online and airtime could reasonable be shared by political candidates. What value to we gain from these political parties? Shortcuts for the ignorant would be replaced by other shortcuts without the party system. Every time I vote some moron is outside the polling area with a piece of paper telling other morons who to vote for. I don't know who takes the time to vote without a single though about how to cast the vote, but apparently there are enough of them that every year I fight my way through these morons.

In time real change will come. I see it's begining to stir. We the American People, are waking up. The process takes forever as the programing is deep but you can't stop destiny. The whole political process is bullshit.
I don't care what a man says(or really believes) before an election after he is elected he is transformed and then goes into re-election mode and make crazy compromises that are against what he professed before the election. (basicly a total sellout loser IMO).
Obama said..I'm going to Tax the rich. Blah Blah. The Reps know this, stall and hold extending unemployment over his head so he caves knowing that he will have no hope of re-election if Taxes go up for everyone and people lose their unemployment checks.
So the rich skate again costing us billion in tax revenue that we needed to pay the war debt that they started and are profiting from as well as the whole housing bull-shit that only hurt the middle class (no bailout for you) and so the rich solidify their positions as they always do after a crisis which they create(sick run on sentence ;D). Wealth is shifted back and all is as it was. (hey anyone sell their gold for cash? Wonder where all the gold went?)
Fuck it, this who shit is garr-bawwge.

Yeah its bad and its just getting worse. Obama got a shit deal, if Mccain would have won he would have got a shit deal. Infact i think its likely the next couple presidents will get a shit deal. The ecomonic recovery has stabilised certain vital areas and in many places created a slow progressive climb. But we still have not seen all the fall out from the original economic collapse. On top of this every state governemnt is on the verge of bankruptcy. This will come soon enough and will probably require another stimulus.
And people dont know anything. Fuck, I dont know anything. Economic apocalypse. Obama gets in. Cant fix it in a year. Its his fault. But some other dude will come along and we will give him 6 months to fix everything. When he fails it will be his fault. Any politician i see even remotley tell the truth and talk about what we gotta do. CUT SPENDING AND RAISE TAXES. People go fuck that guy. That sounds like it sucks. So we get the leaders we deserve. We want the guys that are gonna lie to us and tell us everything is ok. So we will just continue pretending everything is ok. And we can just spend our way into infinite dead until finally one day foreign powers will no longer lone us money. Which could be like another 40 years. Then it goes down BAD.
But like I said we get the leaders we deserve.
-------------------------- Sarah Palin killing things on TV: I know Buck that shit makes me giggle. But i think its actually orchestrated to create an attractive profile. A powerful independant woman who will protect your guns and you know, you can have a beer with her. Those people on the right love that shit.
It really pisses me off though. Theres certainly guys on the right of value. Can we get some of those dudes. I mean a country of our population I think should be able to come up with 2 relatively good candidates. For the record I thought Obama and Mccain were both good shit. Same thing with Clinton and Dole. Other then that I gotta go back to Nixon-Kennedy. Wishful thinking I suppose.
This post has gone on too long and I did not even speak to bucks question. What purpose do the partys serve anymore?

So here is Bill O'Reilly's new column. When I watched him the other night using guests to attack the unions, I was pretty disappointed b/c O'Reilly was a teacher himself, albeit in a different time and place both culturally and educationally. However, he was in my shoes by being in front of the classroom and being in a union, so I thought he would bring an accurate perspective. In his time we were culturally brought up to respect and fear our teachers. These days, its drastically different. But even he seemed to be against the unions and teachers themselves. This article explains his position more fully, I just wish he would have gotten it across on the TV.
Getting Schooled In Wisconsin By Bill O'Reilly for BillOReilly.com Thursday, February 24, 2011
Here's a lesson that is both ironic and sad at the same time. According to the U.S. Department of Education, two-thirds of the eight graders in Wisconsin cannot read proficiently. But assuming the kids are skilled enough to watch TV, they can now see their teachers demonstrating to keep their generous union benefits. So, while things do not seem to be going well in the classroom, any thought of holding teachers somewhat responsible is cause for a protest march.
As a former high school teacher, it pains me to criticize those trying to educate American children. You will never become rich doing that and the job can be maddening. Today, many children are the victims of a permissive society that often refuses to hold kids responsible for their actions. Cowardly parents make excuses for the failure of their kids rather than finding a solution to their poor academic performance. Instead of preparing their children for rigorous academic challenges, derelict parents sit it out.
But teachers are supposed to overcome apathetic parenting and at least give the kids a fighting chance to succeed. That is a challenge that's supposed to be met.
As I've written before, in my eight grade class at St. Brigid's School on Long Island there were 60 students and one nun in the classroom. All of them could read proficiently and, believe me, some of the parents were not exactly Ozzie and Harriet if you understand what I'm saying. The nun brooked no nonsense. She forced us to learn.
But that was then.
In ten years starting in 1998, Wisconsin doubled the amount of money spent on each public school student to more than $10,000 per pupil, per year. And test scores went down! Doing the math, the equation seems to be that money is not the key to knowledge.
Discipline is.
The teachers in Wisconsin should be compensated to the best of the state's ability. But the educational gravy train is off the tracks. There's no more money. The taxpayer is tapped out.
So, in the future, if you want to teach kids you'll have to take less to do it. That may not be fair but that's the lesson that Wisconsin is teaching us. The writing is very clear on the blackboard: No more public money is on the way.
I left teaching because I understood the limitations of the job. I knew at a young age that my income would be restricted and that my life would be fairly predictable.
Selfishly, I wanted more.
But I respect those who devote their lives to teaching immensely. I want them to have as much as the market will bear.
Sadly, that point has now been reached.
I realize that as a teacher, I have a job to do. I come in every day prepared up to the hilt. However, teaching is not like a corporate job, where my success can be measured accurately by reaching specific goals; completing my TPS reports on time, etc.
I can do my job; I can plan my lessons, teach students, create tests; give tests and grade them; correct tests, essays, stories, and homework; but my success is judged on OTHERS level of responsibility, CHILDREN'S level of responsibility, a factor that I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER.
In the corporate world, I would have total control over my job goals; I could stay late, I could work weekends, my level of personal ambition controls my success. But this is not so in education. The students level of personal ambition and responsibility decides my success. These elements are traced back to the home, to the parents, another thing I have no control over.
These are things that cannot be taught in the classroom. These are things that need to be taught in the home. They are not being taught in the home anymore, especially in high minority areas, not because these traits are not valued by minorities, but because family situations often prioritize other, more basic needs, like food, clothing, and shelter, especially in single-parent homes, which are prevalent in low socio-economic areas.
So I ask you, is it fair for ME to be judged on these criteria? Are so-called "deadbeat" teachers really people sitting at their desks all day eating bon-bons, or just teachers whose student's scores aren't reflective of the teacher's effort in the classroom? This is the crux of the debate. At least O'Reilly somewhat acknowledges this. I think the debate needs to be broadened to include this cultural problem, and the net effect it has on overall student achievement. Without including it, the real problem is not being addressed and we are just wasting our time.
Few More Points and Responses:
* O'Reilly's Nun also could whack the students with a ruler at that point in history.
* I agree that DISCIPLINE is the key to knowledge, not money.
* I also agree that teacher's salaries seem to have reached the cieling.
What say you?

"A unionized public employee, a teabagger, and a CEO are sitting at a table. In the middle of the table there is a plate with a dozen cookies on it. The CEO reaches across and takes 11 cookies, looks at the teabagger and says, "Look out for tha...t union guy -- he wants a piece ...of your cookie."

So let me get this right our infastructure is old and falling apart. I can not afford health insurance. Gas is over 3 dollars. Unenployment is still sky high. Japan just got f*cked up. NFL players are locked out .... and we Just went to war with yet another Arab country. (ie Spending money we don't have). I don't see allot of change here. Maybe it's not fare but I thought Obama understood that we(the American people) don't want to be at war anymore. Let alone start a new one. I am not a Rep or Dem. I'm freaking Brian Ring a party of one so don't start that crap. Or I'll deploy my army..

Got a great idea to help our energy production and job creation. EVERY building in Manhattan should have its roof covered in solar panels.
This will create energy to our energy grid, and create jobs to install them and manufacture the solar panels and to ship them.
What do ya think?
Yeah, I agree Brian. Problem is, politicians don't fucking listen to the PEOPLE!!!!

Great Idea Ken. When I was unemployed I looked into classes to be a solar panel installer. I love going green. Lots of good karma and money to be made. I have to look into it again just for knowledge sake.

Great idea ken. I am down.
Ring as far as bombing Libya. I think we just gonna do some opening salvo to knock some shit out of there so England and France can do the real work. Ghadafi is a fuck and he is just bombing civilians. It is a case of absolute evil. I will not except getting fully involved or for any length of time. But i am totally cool with doing some strategic hits in the beginning here and stepping off. Plus that fuck killed some of our marines in the 80s. I dont forget that type of shit. Fuck you Ghadafi.

Here is a link to a news broadcast that some may consider racist, but some may consider a portent of things to come. This is not the first of its kind that I have seen, and I think there is something to it. www.youtube.com/embed/A3YQANdvvbY
