I have DVD player built into the machine, a few sound programs that let me record CD songs, and a couple DVD playing software applications.
However, I cannot figure out how to record the audio from a playing DVD. After that I could splice into sound clips for my personal enjoyment, but I cannot get that far. I know I could get a special cord running from the DVD player to the microphone input or something external to the computer to accomplish this, but it seems rather silly that I cannot record the audio with the components I have.
Any help out there?

I mess with all this stuff so i know enough to know it could be a billion things. First- Certain DVDs are encrypted (this is different from encoded) to prevent cloning. It is possible that these dvds cannot even have their audio dubbed. I dont know. --------------------------------------------------------------- The Surefire Solution: Now this is a little silly but it will work. I am assuming you have Soundrecorder which is a wack little sound recording program that comes with most windows. If you dont have it just use what ever sound recording program you do have. If you do have sound recorder it will be located at... Start-All programs-accessories-entertainment-Sound recorder.
Your computer should have came with speakers and a really shitty microphone. Make sure to go into volume control and make sure the mic is not on mute. You may have to go into volume control properties and check the mic box for it to even show up.
Then start palyign your dvd in the dvd playing program. Then call up sound recorder. Put the mic in front of speakers and press the record buttom. SO on and so forth. If you get feedback just turn it down or move the mic futher away. Its silly but it will work. ------------------ The same results could be acheived alot cleaner by using a double male headphone wire from your output to your input (or mic). But if you were going to radio shack you would have already bought the wire to run from your dvd player to your pc -------------------- Rob g

I don't think I have a microphone. If it came with one, it's not here anyways. I thought about the double cord going from speaker to microphone, but I lack the cord as the ones for the speakers have a different connection on the rear side.
I tried using the Sound Recorder a number of different ways and it was the reason I have explored this DVD audio inquiry in the first place.
Q: Is the microphone worth purchasing?

I cant believe you have no mic. I dont know if its worth pourchasing as i have no idea how much they are. I assume like 5 bucks. But they almost always come with one. Is it possible the mic is built into computer/moniter/keyboard/speakers. Hmmm. I do not know what to make of this. I guess i would get the mic if you really were serious about this.

FLIck it. I mean I was mildly interested in recording the movie quotes and just plain frustrated that I could not figure out a way to without doing something external to the machine. There very may well be a microphone somewhere built in, but I stupid no find it. Maybe it got tossed with the cardboard boxes, who knows?
Thanks for the help. I figured this was the place to come with an inquiry like this. I'll let you know if I stumble upon a crused microphone someday under the couch.

It is possible that the mic is built into the keyboard or the moniter. My cpu did not come with a mic. They are 6.99 at wally world. Many movie qoutes can be downloaded for free from alot of sites . Just use your favorite search engine and type in "sound bites" or "sound bits" or sound clips
