What are some good Horror movies,
I liked Halloweens 1-2-4-5-6-7 (no 3 or 8) Exorcist is classic John Carpenters The Thing is all time great, also from carpenter The Fog, Villiage of the damned. Orginal Dracula and original Mummy The Shining
I recently watched Jeepers Creepers and it was alright. 2 strong nuts. I hear the second one is good.

Do Jacob's Ladder and the Shining count? I don't think they're real "horror" movies, but they get sold as such. I guess you could say the same thing about the Evil Dead series too.

My girlfriend said the same thing about The shining not counting as a horror movie. I say hell yeah it does. It scared me. I thought the whole thing was pretty "horrible". But then again "Solaris" was horrible and that dont count. I never saw jacobs ladder. Good?

What's this under this pile of dust? Some old movie? Looks really goofy. Hey, claymation effects, I remember those. Records spinning backwards, yeah that was supposed to be scary. What's it called? The Gate. Hmmm, could be fun.
Well, I like it anyway. Goofy, but fun.
Jacob's Ladder is good, but has low replay value. Just plain weird is all.
And I totally second Night of the LIving Dead. "they're coming to get you Barbara..."

I've seen a scene or two from Dawn of Dead, but not sat thru it entirely. I know you like it a lot though. I was always scared off by people saying it was an allegory for X. Whatever X is. I am more afraid of talking to those people than this movie, but it prevented me from renting it in the past. Maybe I should revisit the idea, eh?
I liked the Gate a lot. Back when special effects were special alright. SO special you thought you could replicate them with a pile of PlayDoh.

Larry is the chairmen of the dead movies but i will give my opinion aswell.
The dead trilogy is good and should be watched. Night of the living dead Dawn of the dead Day of the dead.
Any other dead movies are shit. Dawn is much less serious then Night and gets silly. But man its funny. Day is all screwed up but still worth it. Romero takes a bizzarre illogical catylist such as the dead rising and follows it through in complete logic. You watch it and your like "Yeah, thats probably what would happen." The theme of the movies being more about human threshold for stress and sociological reactions then about zombies. This is what makes these movies worth it.
It is believed by some that these movies held some parrellels to varied concepts including communism. The dead are all the same and communists make the same income so ofcourse zombies are Communists. Or maybe the point is that zombies are only a pshylogical threat as they are slow and you can really just dance arround them. The only way the zombie gets you is if you screw each other over. Cause thats what capitalists do. Thus Communism is the psychological threat that is not really a threat but makes capitalists screw each other over and we all get eaten by the dead. Not a very compelling thesis.
Though it is Romeros contention that he made one dead movies in every decade to illustrate something. Perhaps how civilization deals with stress in the changing times. I dont know for sure. In this explaination Romero includes the night of the living dead remake as part of the series. 60s- Night 70s- Dawn 80s-Day 90s- Night remake
I dont know for sure but i liked these movies and even if you dont get sold on any of the ideas its gory and fun.

I've heard the communist bit about Night, but I read something about Dawn being about commercialism? I mean, it's a film about zombie that want to eat you, how much can this be a statement about society? Well, I never saw it, so I can't say. Yet!
It would just be easier for me if these directors would out and out say, "by this I meant..." Otherwise it's annoying. I mean, how great a legacy can they leave behind if they never overtly explain themselves? But I guess a good movie needs no explanation?
Anyway, these films sound fun, I need to watch whenever I get my sorry ass around to it. I hate Blockbuster and they hardly carry anything older than a month and I know no other places in the area yet, so everything is on hold. I have a library card and am working up the balls to visit the sole one in the area that has videos, since it's in the heart of the ghetto of Durham. Just where everyone would use a library the exact least, great planning! More like cheap real estate... Yeah it's late and I am one rambling fool right now.

ok i read an interview with ramero and he says the whole commuynism thing is right out, but after hearing hes said its an interesting anology. thier is deffinatly undertones of commersialism in dawn but thats not the theme of the movie. rob was right when he said it was about people not zombies. the zombies were not that much of a threat btu the peoples fear and inability to work togeather was hat got them killed but ramero doesnt make any of his under themes to apparent he kinda leaves it up to the watcher. the dawn series is the classic low budgit master piece. the best of all four movies was the 90s remake of night because ramero didnt try to direct it . i think ramero is a great writer / producer but his direction has much to be desired. the remake was directed by a makeup guy called tom savini aka sexmachine from dust til dawn. fair warning to any one planning on watching these movies ramero doesnt beleive in happy endings

NIGHT WAS DEFINATLY AN AWSOME FLICK. TOO AWSOME TO BE REMADE. THE GATE WAS REALLY GOOD. ONE OF THOSE SCARY FLICKS THEY PLAY SATURDAY MORNINGS INSTEAD OF AT NIGHT. OLD HORROR FLCKS
RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD-OK BAD EFFECTS NIGHT OF THE LIVING SCARECROW-OLD AS DIRT BUT GOOD RETURN OF THE LIVING SCARECROW-2NUTS THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN-SCARY SCARY PUMPKIN HEAD- WAS PRETTY SCARY BUT KIND OF SUCKED I DONT KNOW IF THEY COUNT BUT FACES OF DEATH MOVIES ARE OF DISTURBING,DISGUSTING,TURN YOUR HEAD, CLOSE YOUR EYES NATURE AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.
AND SOME PARTS OF PET CEMETARY WERE PRETTY FLIPPING SCARY

My sister said Darkness Falls bit the big one. I never saw it though. And she is hardly the film critic. But she said it was a goofy Tooth-Fairy alrighty.
Dawn of Dead looks good. I cannot find old one in Blockbuster, library, under the couch, with green eggs and ham....
