I had to go star wars with this one. But it was tough. Basically i think star wars and godfathers are all the films that need ever be made. Between the two of them they encompass for me the perfection of everything that can or should be done on film. Yes my thesis fails to recognize comedy as somethign needed to be done on film but hey, i talking serious business here.
Ofcourse star wars was a true trilogy. Where god father was really 2 movies. The first being the first 2 movies telling one story and Godfather part 3 being something compeltely different. The fact that they took the middle of the book and created the first movie with it then took everything they left out and meshed into a second movie was crazy. Only because Francis ford coppola is a maniacal genius could this have worked. And i still mantain 2 was the best. Because i feel star wars is a more legitimate series as it was designed in fact i gave it the final node. The last 5 minutes of empire strikes back is the greatest shit ever. "luke, i am your father". Amazing. Then with jedi they start off by kicking your ass then theres ewoks for no reason anyone can understand followed up the most epic climax ever. Star wars is the greatest.
I wish i was a wookie.

Best movie series? I have to agree with the Robmeister on this one. The Star Wars trilogy definitely stands out as the best. There are so many plots and sub-plots running through these movies that its almost unbelievable, the most shocking sub-plot of course that Luke is Darth Vader's son.
This series had it all, love story, magic, action, battle, original characters with original names, and what's best of all, it was the CHARACTERS that made the film great, not the actors, remember, almost everybody was a nobody when Star Wars came out. Not to mention it was cutting edge as well.
As for the Godfather. I have never been able to sit through these movies for some reason. Many people tell me I am a maniac. This may indeed be true. What kind of a sane person actually goes to college to become a teacher and then actually becomes a teacher.
My second choice however, is the Indiana Jones trilogy, which is great in its own right. Once again, great characters and story driven. The only problem was that the second movie, The Temple of Doom, was kind of out of place when you consider that the first two movies had to do with modern Christian religion, i.e. the search for the Ark and the Holy Grail, and the second had to do with a pagan religion. All movies were great however.
Now for something completely different. How about a prediction about a movie? I just read this awesome book called, "The Da Vinci Code" that was so awesome, I predict that it will be made into a movie within 2-3 years time. Check this book out, it was a super fast read, only 454 pages. There's been a lot of buzz about this book.
Anyway, what about Aliens?

I knew there would be some series left out, but better to have half-ass than no ass says I.
I voted Godathers and I usually think they are on an entirely different level of movie-making. Coppola is the man, even when it comes to wine. It was tempting to go with LOTR, but they haven't even done a conclusion yet so it doesn't even deserve a vote. Whoever made this poll os an idiot (yup, me).
[deleted rant about Biblical codes]. That Da Vinci thing I now recall. It's about the Mona Lisa and an ancient bank heist or something along those lines and nothing to do with Biblical Codes, right? I've heard of it and heard it was as Ken says a must read.
I was also wondering where you guys stood on the prequels then? Jar-jar and company certainly degrade the thing. I did not really care at all for Phantom Menace and it did not capture my imagination at all. the second one was better, mostly because the fights and you know the outcome, so the building of climax comes so very naturally through the course of the film.
And did anyone ever see the Last Don or its kin? These movie series inevitably lead to squeezing the cash cow until the milk is totally sour. TV series and whatnot. The Young Indiana Jones. Seems like it would be better to let good things stand, unless you can add something of worth. Which is why I hate Puff Daddy.
OK me stop now. Tired.

Aliens should have been in there. But i think it would loose every time to sta wars.
Never saw the last don 1 or 2 and not sure if there was 3 of these but there was another movie connected somehow to the last don movies.
About going with star wars i kindof think of the prequels as something else. But i like thg prequels. I thought phantom menace was good. Just good. Jar Jar was drastically terrible but on the flip side the fight scene with darth maul was drastically awesome. I think its possible that the fight scene at the end of menace is the greatest in anymovie ever. As for Attack of the clones. I thought it was awesome.
Theres definatly magic lost between the original trilogy and the new ones. The old ones just gelled better which almost should not be as all 3 of the original movies were directed by different folks were the new ones are all lucas. But i'm sure lucas was the master slave driver for the original.
Indiana Jones was great but yeah man temple of doom totally stands waked out there in more ways then one. I like to watch raiders and then last crusade and not think of temple of doom.
As for Young indiana jones i never watched it but wish i had. A strange thing is all the best current screen writers shared credits as a writers on young indiana jones. Is george lucas a genius.

I mentioned the Aliens series just because I think it deserved a mention, however, as a matter of principle it almost always has to lose out to Star Wars by virtue of how amazing the entire trilogy was. Aliens was great with a few exceptions, but you have to give the series a lot of nuts for its ability to keep reinventing itself. With the exception of Aliens III, all the movies were fresh. The only thing that allows Aliens III any credibility is that Ripley dies at the end, and come to think of it, that's actually quite a bit of credibility. I still would pick Indiana Jones before Aliens. Hmmm. I might have to mull that over for a few days.
Referencing something that Buckley said about comedy, I usually don't like to go see comedy movies in the theatre with the exception of the American Pie series, which come to think of it, is a trilogy. However, it seems that comedy movies are a severe hit or miss. Rarely do I fall in love with any comedy movies. I guess that's because there are so many different genres of comedy and so many different tastes.
Biblical Codes you say? The Da Vinci Code was basically about the search for the Grail, however, in this book, which has been hailed as genuis just because of the exhaustive research the author did, the Grail takes on a different form from the one most lay people are familiar with. It will definitely throw you a curve ball.
Star Wars prequels. Damn. Phantom Menace. Jar Jar ruined this movie for me. I must say that I can barely stand to sit through this movie without just fast forwarding to the speeder race and then the final battle at the end. Even during the final battle I was severely annoyed at young Anakin being solely responsible for destroying the space station, fate or not. The actual battle with Darth Maul was spectularly awesome, definitley goes down as one of the great Jedi fights, however I don't think anything can compare to Yoda's acrobatic free-for-all with Dookoo.
Attack of the Clones was definitely awesome. It finally gave Star Wars fans what they wanted most, Boba (Jango) Fett!!!!! The fight scene between Jango and Obi Wan is great. One thing that continually drives me crazy though is Jango's jet pack. Can that funkin' thing malfuntion ONE MORE FUNKIN' TIME PLEASE? Jeez, get a new one.
The prequels are definitely "something else," as Rob puts it. It helps to think of them in that way.
Anybody see Underworld yet? I saw it on Friday and I have some definite opinions of this movie but I won't talk about it until I have the green light.

I DONT KNOW ITS A TOUGHY. STAR WARS WAS DEFINATLY AWSOME AS WERE MOST OF THE SCENES IN THE GODFATHER. I GNIKCUF HATE ALIENS. INDIANA JONES WAS COOL. ONE OF THOSE MOVIES YOU COULD WATCH IF IT WAS ON EVERYDAY. I WOULD HAVE TO GO WITH HALLOWEEN THOUGH. COME ON " I SHOT HIM SIX TIMES" THE MOST FAMOUS OF QUOTES FROM ANY FLICK(EXCEPT OF COURSE "ILL BE BACK!") JASON FREDDY OR PIN HEAD WOULD NEVER HAVE SEEN A SECOND MOVIE IF LOOMIS WAS HUNTING THERE CHUMP SSA. THUS MAKING MICHALE MYERS ONE OF THE BADEST SESSA TO COME FROM THE DARK SIDE.PLUS THERES TITS AND SSA.
HONORABLE MENTION- ALSO STARING THAT HAN SOLO GUY. THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER/PATRIOT GAMES/CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER
