Hey guys, I just had to share my thoughts about what is happening in the world today and why I'm so worried today. I know we have all heard about the end of cheap oil but we just experienced a .50 increase in 24 hours. This whole flooding thing down in new Orleans is a really big fucking deal, I dont mean the people dead and no, the increase in fuel cost was NOT because of the oil rig that washed up on shore.
Rising fuel costs WILL be what spells the end of our economy. We have only heard about the great depression, no one alive here has any clue how it will affect them. i mean food will raise in price along with everythig else because of rising transportation costs due to oil prices. companies will make cutbacks to compensate meaning lost jobs, lost jobs means people wont be able to afford the food they are trying to sell and need to eat. Our export import is way out of whack also. Our biggest export is ...Arms, yep we export 1 out of ten items we import. we are all fucked up I mean look at whats happening down in new orleans, its been just days and people have been looting, One guy shot his sister in the head for a bag of ice. Fucking ice people, And of course now we have to worry about disease being spread down there, the dead bodies rotting in the streets on and under the water the bodies trapped in attics, etc. gators and sharks in the streets, it aint no fucking picnic. We will see $4 a gallon by the end of sept. for over a year now economists have speculated that the $4 gallon mark would be the starting point for a new recession, and god i hope its not a depression. Its real fucking ugly and its only gonna get worse. i for one am real fuckng worried about the whole damn country. People dont realize we are going to spend BILLIONS trying to save that fucking city and correct this tradjedy, the diseases that will spread, the famine, the $$$$ spent will be astronomical. fuel getting more expensive, ...
Look... we are going down and we will be down real soon, before january, mark my words, go buy a shot gun and learn how to use it.
Im not kidding , have your affairs in order, find a defendable place, kep it gaurded and stocked because you will need to get there when the social structure and economy collapses onto itself.
We will have 2 classes , the extremely wealthy (not like executive wealthy, i mean like politician wealthy, millionaires ec.) and the poor, the middle class will be eliminated. We will wind up like half the world.
The sad part. there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WE CAN DO.
I am scared...

Whoa there guy. Don't panic. I see you have no faith in our government or people. If any nation can handle this it's us. Were the freakin United State. Yes the price of gas is going to go up. Company's are always trying to make a buck. The government will release reserves until the situation is under control. You will see the biggest relief effort in U.S. history. Be for Warned the comments after this are non-politically correct and tainted with a touch of racism. Have you seen on the news who are doing the looting and violence. I'll give you one guess as to what race is going nuts. Now I am not saying that others arn't hurt by this disaster. But this group of people are the same that riot and pillage when every they get the chance. You know the dumb fucks were shooting at rescue helicopters. The national gaurd and federal troops are going to be moblised. It will take a little time as allot of troops are overseas. As soon as this happens and order is returned a rebuilding process will begin. Dude we hit Japan with two nukes and rebuilt them into a great economic power. You think that a storm is going to break us. It's going to suck for a bit. Allot of good people lost their homes and jobs. Most of the non-economically challenge or just plain stupid people left New Orleans. I feel sorry for the people who could not because they are poor. The woman, children and old people. Its going to be alright. I am more scared of crazy people with shot guns than I am of a great depression.

I agree with Ring almost in entirety. We ARE the freakin' United States. Remember when someone turned off the power on California (who reminds us daily they are equivalent to one of the world's largest economies in terms of sheer GDP). In 1973 oil quadroupled in price and there was no depression. Prices in 1980 were still more expensive in terms of today's dollars than what we are facing now. Recessions are one thing, something that we all have faced in our lifes. Depressions are quite another and far off from where we are now.
"I am more scared of crazy people with shot guns than I am of a great depression." Amen to that.
I did note a similar trend that Ringo mentioned. My most prevailing thought was being mad at these people for remaining in New Orleans. Not because a storm came and they knew it. Because the city sits below sea level and is prone to flooding whenever anything big comes their way, they were warned, and they all fucking knew it was coming sometime. In defense of the trend observed: according to the last census data, 27.9% of the population lives below the poverty line and might lack the ability to transport themselves or pay for transportation out of the city. Also, 67.5% of the city is black, so any time they show a throng of people rioting or sitting on buildings in T-shirt dresses begging for help, chances are that most of them will be black. There, you can feel better now Brian. I think I do.

Yeah Niggas always riot and shit. Their fucking animals. They have no morals and their astonishing lack of morals is encouraged in the culture they have created for themselves. Romantised in their entertainment which is embraced and consequently imitated by other cultures. LIVIN IN AMERICA
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, and I'll give em' Two turntables and a microphone"
Still alot of those people rioting are taking TVs. Some are beating people up. Some are shooting at police. Some are actually gang raping women. But alot of people are stealing food to eat.
But anyhow bucks right. New Orleans is Black. But you dont much here bad things going on down there. New Orleans always seemed to me a COOOLL place where everybody got high and spoke french. White People and Black People unified in debauchery.
I'm not so sure that it was only the poor that stayed. Mad people stayed cause they get these silly huricane warnings all the time. And everytime people are like "Its below sea level it could get all fucked up" but that never happens. Brett Farves mom and 90 year old granma stayed and climbed into the attic. Its crazy shit.
What the hell is the current topic. Oh yeah the ecnomy collapsing due to fuel costs. Yeah that shit is really really bad. Gas has slowly went up a dollar over the past 10 years. Then it went up another dollar in the last 2 weeks. THATS REALLY REALLY BAD. Bucks right that in realtive value the gas has been higher before. But its still climbing. And I agree with Linearone that the cost of gas is gonna drive the price of everything up. Bottom line is consumers have to figure out a way to fight back. The price is being arbitrailly raised just as much as it is beings forced up by current situations. The entire fucking country runs on Oil. Our government must find a way to get us our Oil at a reasonable rate. Something like less then 2 dollars. What scares me is that no one is gonna remember that before all this shit started Gas was well under 2 dollars. That is the norm it should return to. But I fear it will never go under 2 dollars again.
We need more refinerys, we need more oil for cheap. Either in Alaska or under the ocean or in a country that has not figured out how to get their oil and we can help them. And in general we have to move toward less oil dependency.
But i take these staements to be self evident. Big Oil owns the government and thats the end of that story.
Gas will continue to rise and we will pay and thats the way it will be. But I dont think the world will collapse.
As far as mexicans. I loved Bucks analisis on the situation. But I completely disagree with everything else he said. At this point I relise no one is reading a post this long and so I will stop. Props to Texas

Here is a good place. If you don't think so you can always go to South America, Africa, parts of Asia, and of coure the Middle East where its New Orleans all the time. I really wish people would travel to other parts of the world. Even the good places get old quick and you will want to bring your ass home. Dude it's football season soon.............sweet. I am a dumb American and if anyone or country fucks with me and mine then I will simply get back in my Tank and blow their houses up. Of course I won't stay and help rebuild. I'll just bring my ass home and watch Monday night Football. Seriously, I think that we will get through this as a country. We will do what we always do, drive on.....you will see order and progress. Oh yeah, a lot more wave breaks off the coast of New Orleans.

Everybody knows how gung-ho I am about this wonderful country of ours, and if there ever was a country that could pull through a situation like we are in; natural disaster, rising oil prices, war, immigrant invasion, than it is us.
However, we shouldn't just easily dismiss the situation. Yes, gas prices back in the eighties were higher when you adjust for inflation, but the situation is VERY different. Remember, SUV's, Pick-up trucks, and gas-guzzuling Hummers, weren't popular, hell, they were barely in production. The Ford Explorer started the craze, with the Chevy Suburban and the Ford Bronco barely a blip on the radar screen. Now, EVERYBODY has an SUV, and they eat a lot more gas than the Olsmobile Cutlass, Chevy Caprice, or IROC. The SUV gas tanks are bigger, and they don't have to comply with EPA standards for fuel efficiency like cars do.
People are spending more on gas now than ever.
And don't dismiss the PSYCHOLOGICAL impact of these quickly rising gas prices, the war in Iraq and now this hurricane. People will be more likely to hold onto their money instead of spending or investing. Prices WILL rise for food and perishables. And as Rob stated, prices may NEVER fall back to just under $2.00 where I believe they should naturally be. A recession is possible. People may default on their SUV's because they just can't afford them anymore. The car industry takes a huge hit. American car companies are in big enough trouble. Sales are so horrible that they had to give everybody an employee discount. Now people get laid off, unemployment rises, etc. It could set off a chain reaction.
As for New Orleans. Fuck New Orleans. The government should forbid the rebuilding of this place below sea-level. Why should we bail them out? It's costing us too much money. They should clean the place, bulldoze it and let the swamp reclaim it.
The people looting and pillaging for profit, shooting at rescue helicopters, and holding firefighters hostage are hoods, low-lifes and niggers. Yes, most are probably of low socio-economic status, and most probably belong to gangs and stayed purposely to loot and rob, hoping the hurricane would pass them by. Fuck em.

IT SHOULD BE CHANGED TO THE UNITED STATES FULL OF IMMIGRANTS. THIS COUNTRY IS TURNING INTO THE BIGGEST LOSER OF ALL.
YES IT IS ALL BLACK FOLKS DOWN THERE BUT THEY ARE ALSO PEOPLE. PEOPLE WHO LIVE CHECK TO CHECK JUST LIKE ME. WHERE DO YOU GO WHEN YOU HAVE NO CAR NO MONEY OR EVEN A CREDIT CARD TO RESERVE A ROOM THAT IS GOING FOR 3X THE NORMAL PRICE BECAUSE SOME ASSHOLE WHO OWNS IT CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE RUNNING FOR THERE LIFE.
WHO WAS THE FIRST ONES TO RAISE GAS PRICES? THE SAME PEOPLE DOWN SOUTH WHO ARE CHARGING THE OUTRAGEOUS HOTEL PRICES.
WHY DIDNT THE GOVT. SET UP ALL THE MASS TRANS DOWN SOUTH TO HAUL THESE POOR PEOPLE OUT WHEN THEY HAD 2 DAYS TO PREPARE?
WHY HAS THE PRICE OF OIL FALLEN EVERY DAY SINCE BUT GAS IS STILL GOING UP?
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THE SHOOTING OF HELICOPTERS AND STUFF(THEY ARE NIGGERS) BUT WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING AND NO ONE IS HELPING WHAT CAN YOU DO.
WHY DOES IT TAKE A WEEK TO GET STARTED ON HELPING THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE (BLACK OR WHITE) AMERICANS. WE CAN GET ANY WHERE IN THE WORLD TO HELP NIGGERS IN AFRICA, TOWEL HEADS IN THE MID EAST, ALBANIANS, IN A MATTER OF HOURS TO PROTECT BUSHES PRIVATE INTRESTS (OIL) BUT CANT GET DOWN SOUTH TO HELP OUR OWN.

HOW CAN THESE IMMIGRANTS COME TO THE US OF IMMIGRANTS AND BE GIVEN TAX FREE LOANS AND LIVE AND WORK HERE WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING DEPORTED EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE ILLEGAL.
I DONT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT A DEPRESSION OR AN IDIOT WITH A SHOTGUN BECAUSE ME AND A BILLION OTHER TRUE AMERICANS WILL REBULD WHATEVER NEEDS TO BE BUILT. I CARE ABOUT 10 MIL MEXICANS RUINING OUR ECONOMY. I WORRY ABOUT TOWEL HEADS HAVING A MONOPLY ON THE GAS INDUSTRY(BUSH DONT CARE BECAUSE WHEN GAS GOES UP HE MAKES MORE RETIREMENT MONEY) I WORRY ABOUT PAYING PRICES FOR THING THAT ARE CHEAPER IN EVERY OTHER STATE AND COUNTRY FOR THAT MATTER.
KNOCK DOWN THE STATUE OF LIBERTY AND TURN IT INTO LITTLE MEXICO.
DONT REBUILD THE TOWERS LET HALIBURTON GET THE CONTRACT THEN THEY CAN TURN IT INTO A TOWEL HEAD RESORT AND OIL REFINERY.
DONT PROTECT OUR BORDERS LET THE TERRORISTS WALK FREELY IN THE STREETS(OH YEAH THEY ALREADY DO)WITH BOMBS ON THERE CHEST BLOWING UP STREET CORNER AFTER CORNER. THEY WILL KILL THEMSELVES AT THE SAME TIME SO JUST HOPE THEY RUN OUT OF VESTS AND BOMBS BEFORE WE RUN OUT OF AMERICANS.
BY THE WAY IF THIS ANGERS ANY ONE LIKE I KNOW IT WILL JUST REMEMBER I NEVER VOTED FOR BUSH.

About this hurricane shit: Everyone locally deserves immense blame. There is a reason why the news centers not around the places where the storm actually raged and the eye of the storm actually passed. Blame for that to everything Creole. Go a day or two later and there are thousands of people without food. FEMA trains monthly for that precise type of scenario. If they cannot do that one thing, perhaps they should be disbanded and those funds re-appropriated back to the states themselves to handle those duties. Immigration: this country is full of immigrants. That is literally the precise message of the Statue of Liberty. Everyone is free to come here, no matter how shitty and destitute you are. Gas: simply put, we can afford to pay more for gas. I don't feel depressed about that yet. Craig's List is a real Internet hub that my wife uses to try and find used books for classes. It is not just political/social rants. Not that I clicked either link, there are enough lunatic rants in our circle without having to go looking for any more. I never voted for Bush either. I do think the handling of this with the tried and tested "let's have an investigation" (which never happens) is alarmingly representative of a trend. As in, perhaps all other instances where I wanted to believe the guy was trying and trying, maybe he was checked out on vacation then too. Maybe this really is just a presidency of smoke and mirrors after all. Don't get in my ass about that thought, my candidate was a radical that recently wrote this article: www.nader.org/template.php?/archives/192-Bush,-Katrina-and-Big-Oil.html Supreme Court: some assclown that never presided once in the Supreme Court should never even be in the running to be nominated for Chief Justice. That notion is sheer lunacy. Yet GW nominated Roberts. I don't care who the guy is or what spectacular merits he has, the position of the chief among them needs to have at least a couple of years of experience among them. My "big bad post" starts here though. I had thought to post on the music thread but realized it was too political to belong there: By and large I don't care what an entertainer thinks about anything other than entertaining me. I do not view their work in order to learn anything or form opinions about life, the world, or myself. This holds true to Kanye West stating that George Bush doesn't like black people, making his fundraising appearance a referendum on race and politics in the midst of a recovery effort. Then I read this (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050908/people_nm/jayz_outburst_dc_2): Jay-Z said he hasn't "spoken to anyone about doing a concert event" to benefit Katrina victims, he says he wants to speak with Sean "Diddy" Combs about starting a fund exclusively to help blacks in times of crisis. "Just in case anything like this happens in the future, we can do what the elder Bush and (former President Bill) Clinton are doing for our people specifically." I bet they could do it to. I hope they call it the United Negro Don't Get A Job Fund. How can anyone get away with this sort of logic. I don't mind people mobilizing fundraising, but specifically to help blacks? It is weird because either they presume that only the blacks will need the help (racist) or they don't care to help out anyone that is not black (racist). Conclusion: black people think others are racist against them so they act racist. Thinking about this made me realize they refer to something as black-on-black crime in further putting down their people. The reality it that it is not black people stealing and killing - it is drug addicts and drug dealers. Calling out race as the issue serves only to oppress that race. Like citing prison rates. Young black men go to jail not because they are young black men. They go to jail because they commit crimes, largely related to drugs. The painfully obvious fact is the economic basis that drives them to drugs, but instead blacks derive race from the equation and disservice themselves.

So I was watching the news and listening to an account of a doctor who was present at the Superdome. He was saying there was no one there but thousands of refugees. There was no law or food. He it was like old horror movies. When the sun would go down the evil would come out. Bands of men would stalk the crowd and select women they wanted to rape. Then they would take them. Beating up, injuring or killing anyone who got in their way. People like fathers, boyfriends, grandma's, random citizens. Then they would take the women, gang rape them and sometimes kill them too. As the man gave his account of events you could tell his soul had been damaged.
Now we all know who was doing this. And my thing is this. Like buck said race is almost a non factor. In any culture since the beginning of time there is usual one ethnic of religious group which dominates the lower class. This makes them massively more inclined to commit crimes (Drug related or other). To be suspected of crimes. To be successfully proscecuted for crimes. The cycle perpetuates itself. The only way these groups can break free of the cycle is with great effort usual requiring great leaders. And the effort must come from within and without. The general perception reactively attributed to these groups is indeed oppressive.
But in america our suffering minority has adopted a confrontational posture as buck stated. They think we racist against them so they racist against all of us. And in the face of this we gotta do the right thing. Furthermore they have mad it cool to be scum. They encourage the following behavior (1)Fuck the police (2)Fuck all woman. (3)Fuck white people (4)Fuck school and work (5)Resort to physical violence whenever possible. (6)Take what you want weather its yours or not. Act like everything is owed to you. When all else fails pull the race card. Its fucking rediculous.
More about New Orleans: As far as i can tell it was a failure on all levels. From the local government to FEMA to the federal government. The blame is not set by who did what. The blame is aceessed by the inaction of those capable to act. This is why I gotta hold Bush to hgihest level of accountability. He was in the position to do the most and did shit. But everyone down the line is accountable aswell with blame being accessed to how much they could have done but did not. FEMA is fucking terribel and you gotta wonder is it that they dont know what they are doing or are they not enabled to do their job. Either way if FEMA should be made capable or completely unmaid all together. Give their paycheck to amry and national guard for supplies.

There is some really insightful stuff written here. You guys are all correct about the race issues of course.
I understand, as JBOY put it, that people are poor, and they don't have cars or credit cards to get a hotel room. What I want to know is, why didn't they voluntarily evacuate themselves to the Superdome? I know the conditions there were horrible, but they didn't know how the Superdome was going to be before the storm. Did their legs stop working?
I have to say that our government has completely failed to act accordingly and all parties responsible should be held accountable, including Bush, who has disappointed me entirely during this oil crisis as well as Hurricane Katrina. Just because there is a war going on, doesn't mean that you neglect everything else.
I heard a report that FEMA has been occupied preparing for terrorist acts more than practicing for natural disasters or relief efforts. This is supposed to explain their slow reaction. But I don't buy it. Everybody knew Katrina was bearing down on the one spot in America that people have been WAITING to see go underwater for 40 years. How do you drop the ball on that one?
As for the behavior in the Superdome, as tragic as it was, will it be a wake-up call to the African-American community? That the behavior they foster can turn on them? Will they realize that they need to make some serious changes?
People should have been supportive of each other, helping each other, like we saw at ground zero, not preying on each other.
