YEAH BABY! It’s about time the Oscar’s awarded the crap out of this trilogy. Lord of the Rings really deserved it. There was plenty of fine acting (although no actor won anything or was nominated), lots of drama, and just great directing. Kudos to Peter Jackson!

On an interesting side note, the Oscar analysts were commenting on the fact that the Oscars were moved up a month to take place in the Feb. Sweeps and to enable ABC to charge more for commercials during Sweeps. The commentators went on to say that it is usually during this last month of voting that favorites change and last minute politicking may influence the voting process. Since the voting season was short, it made it easy for the Academy to just choose LOTR for each category.
I’m not sure that I put any stock in this theory. I’m just glad that the Academy finally recognized the fantasy genre as a legitimate platform for best movie and direction.
