Wierd Story,
I told someone at work I play D&D. Then the head chef was like "I used to play D&D"
But he played orioginal D&D, not advanced, not second editon, original 1977 D&D. So then every day the kitchen crew begs to play D&D> Finally I concede. So the other day they made up charcters using the original D&D books. You know "The Red Box set" from 1980. Crazyness, theres no races. Just clases, and the classes are fighter, magic user, cleric, theif, halfling, elf, dwarf. Its just silly. And the dude brought like the first D&D module with him. Keep on the borderlands by Gary Gygax. Its insane. It was cool for 20 minutes for the nostalgic value but I am already bored. Starting players suck. One dude wants to be evil and burn forests. I was doing that back in 88. Not thanx.
Well now this thread is about D&D again.

Interesting to say the least.

I own that module. It is literally just a bunch of monsters standing around to kill you. No story, no rooms, no adventure. They just stand there until you attack. Or at least that is how I remember it being.

Now that's my kind of module!

Buck,
you are correct. Thats exactly what it is. Just monster stand arround to kill. Heres the module. The keep on the borderlands is just a town where you rest. Next to the town is one thing. A place called the caves of chaos. There monster wait for you to attack. MADNESS.
BUT MY STORY GROWS STRANGER So I work at a resturant and there is one yo8ung couple who are our best customers. This guy named Gary and his girl. I know gary in passing as he comes in all the time. Last night he calls to pick up his food. Hes never done this before. So while hes paying for his food he says "hey I hear you guys are playing D&D". I'm like "How do you know this?"
"Hes like the head chef told me" Basically the chef comes out for very special customers.
Gary then says "I used to play second editon but my group broke up"
I chat with him for a few minutes and basically convey the idea that this is some madness I got sucked into it.
So later as Gary is leaving i say "See you next time" And he timidly says "Maybe I will come play sometime" I'm like HOLY SHIT. This is getting out of line.
So now it seems on wednesday after work I will be DMing the head chef, the second chef, the dessert boy, and Gary on the wackest module ever using rules created before i was born (literally).
What madness have i unraveled?

I am going to drop a d20 every restaurant I go into from now on to see how long it takes before a campaign starts up around it. Like dandelions, DnD got mad deep roots.

See, this is what everyone who enters into any hobby, game, etc runs into. I run itnto it all the time with the radio stuff I am into and its tough. the reality is if no new blood gets introduced ever things cant progress and the game, hobby whatever becomes nothing more than a series of planned movements that one can do almost blindfolded.. Sorry i used you for an example rob. hate to do that to people. Here is my story. I played D&D once in my life for like an hour. barely had any understanding of the game and I thought it was AWESOME! I totally wanted to play it again but the DM we had was so tired of us asking 100 ?'s etc. we never reconvened. So what did I do? I turned to video games like Zelda, Dragonwarrior, final fantasy, Diablo II, and now its probably going to be Warcraft. Would I like to still learn and have a great time? sure I would. It is very tough for newbies though. I need to find a group willing to drag me along for a while.

Yeah your right,
It is wack when people who are old pros at something shit on somebody who is new. That was not really what I meant. What pissed me off was the dude wanting to be evil and burn forests. For some reason this is exactly what every young new player wants to do. And for an old dog like me its beat.

What is so cool about burning forests? does it do something cool? or is it just something people do cause they can in a game. does sound dull though.
